The Education Department will ensure a quality education, along with life path opportunities, while preserving and revitalizing the language, culture, tradition and societal core values, with the integration of community, home, and school to allow for student success in both worlds.
Mission
Our team will carry out our mission by advocating, assisting, promoting, guiding, motivating and supporting the whole person, along with family needs, through a positive and safe environment that promotes an individualistic approach to ensuring a quality education and livelihood of Tamayame Identity for their entire life path.
Tamaya Learning Center
The Tamaya Learning Center provides a safe and nurturing learning environment to support all Santa Ana children ages 3 months to five years regardless of ability or need. Developmental Screenings and access to support services for children with special needs are available, as are many activities including Keres Language Classes daily with daily classroom, swimming, tumbling and library activities. Experienced and dedicated teachers utilize a research based early childhood curriculum for instruction.
Student Services
The Department of Education monitors Santa Ana students who reside on the Santa Ana reservation and attend Bernalillo Public Schools, students who commute to out of district schools daily, and those who attend and dorm at SFIS.
Home School Liaison Services
The Home School Liaison Program advocates for students and maintains communication between the school and home for students attending public, private, and charter schools.
Scholarship Funding
Higher Education Scholarship:
The Pueblo of Santa Ana offers a Higher Education Scholarship for tribal members that want to pursue a college degree, vocational certificate, or other educational certificates. The goal of the Higher Education Scholarship Program is to promote and encourage the pursuit of higher education by providing scholarships to eligible Pueblo of Santa Ana members.
The Career Pathways Coordinator at the Department of Education processes all higher education applications and presents the scholarships to the Santa Ana Education Board (SAEB). The SAEB is authorized by the Pueblo of Santa Ana Tribal Council to make all decisions regarding the application for scholarships.
Youth Scholarship:
The tribe funds youth K-12 to attend leadership programs, summer college prep programs, summer enrichment classes and other education conferences/workshops. Student must apply for this scholarship through the Department of Education.
After School Program
Academics
Santa Ana Department of Education After School youth receive academic support from academic tutors and staff to complete homework and reinforce classroom learning.
Santa Ana Pueblo Community Library
The Santa Ana Pueblo Community Library is situated within the Education Department building and consists of the general library, a children’s area, and outdoor space. The library holds materials and provides services and programs to serve the residents of Santa Ana Pueblo and surrounding communities. Our space serves as a learning and activities center for the community, a meeting place, and a gateway to information. The library contains just under 10,000 books and periodicals, DVDs, board games, video games and other equipment on various subjects and interests to meet our patrons personal, educational, and cultural needs.
Arts
After School Program youth develop their creative minds and bodies in various arts and culture programs. Some of the art activities given are creative writing, visual art, computer art, and various crafts.
Recreation Activities
At Afterschool, youth participate in a range of physical fitness activities. Youth are encouraged to develop their abilities in various team sports and learn new skills many of which are through teamwork challenges. After School Program offers a balance of games, team challenges and recreational fitness opportunities.
Summer Program
Santa Ana Department of Education Summer Program encompasses much of the same outlined program like the After School Program, In addition Tamaya language and culture are incorporated into the program. The Summer Program also takes various field trips through-out the summer.
Registration (After School / Summer)
Registration for After School Program is always open from August through May. Summer Program registration to be determined.
